Histology Section Supervisor Wanted

The California Animal Health & Food Safety Laboratory System, University of California, Davis is seeking a histology section supervisor.  The incumbent will be responsible for managing the Davis histology laboratory and providing consultation and technical support in histology methodology to histology personnel at the 4 CAHFS branch labs. This manager will coordinate daily workload for all routine histology procedures including special stains and immunohistochemistry (IHC) at the Davis Laboratory (3FTE). He/She will also be responsible for providing technical support in the development of new state of the art histology procedures as needed (IHC, in situ hybridization etc) and for maintaining and coordinating quality control for all testing at the Davis Lab.  As lab manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the general maintenance of lab procedures (ex. maintenance or procedural manuals) equipment, and personnel (training and evaluations).  As one of 4 histotechnicians in this lab, the individual will also perform a reasonable share of the daily workload procedures (routine histology, special stains, IHC etc). The histology section supervisor will also be responsible for communicating with histotechnicians at branch laboratories through an interbranch histology committee striving to continually improve and expand capabilities at all CAHFS histology labs.

Requirements include:
- ASCP HTL or HT certification
- Demonstrated skills to provide effective management and leadership in a diagnostic histology lab
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic histochemistry and histology and skills to perform same
- Skills to perform immunohistochemistry procedures both manually and with automated equipment.
- Knowledge to evaluate and develop new immunohistochemical procedures and stains
- Knowledge and skills to establish quality control procedures and stains.

Position includes excellent benefits package.  Salary: $3300-5608/mo, DOE.
