It sounds like your fixation is good, unless the specimens are too thick..

You didn't say whether you are using xylene or xylene substitute and the
time you would keep them in solution during processing.

Another thing with fatty breast is sometimes the wax has not infiltrated
enough. Try placing the breast blocks back in paraffin for a couple of
hours. They end up cutting very well once infiltrated with wax.

We are fixing our breast cases overnight in 10% buffered formalin, then
 placing the cassettes into Penfix, then process normally that night.
 I have a penfix station on the processor after two formalins. We are still
 having trouble with the breast tissue that is extremely fatty.
