RE: Policy on retention of surgical wet tissue

From:Vicki Gauch

We hold our wet tissues for 2 weeks after sign out before discarding. We run a pending and a finaled list on our computer and from those we can determine which cases need to be held longer and which cases have been signed out longer than two weeks ago. We check off the specimens on the list as we discard them and keep those lists in a binder for reference purposes.

Subject: Policy on retention of surgical wet tissue

I know that CAP states wet tissues can be discarded two weeks after final
report. So, how do you determine each specimen has been signed out at least
two weeks prior? What is your policy or method that you follow when it is
time to discard tissue?
