Re: control slides

From:Barbara Stancel

Cynthia,

We cut about 300-500 AFB or fungal control slides at time. All of the other
stains we perform are also cut in mass. We store them slide-to-slide in the
empty new slide boxes that have been labeled and dated. We have never had
any problems with their staining. Some of our more obscure controls may sit
for several years. If we have problems, we can usually trace it to poor
technic or expired solutions.

This does not apply to IHC controls.

Histologically yours,
Barbara

I have a question on control slides and how long can you keep them. I've cut
over a 100 slides with AFB positive tissue and over 100 fungus positive
tissue. Is it true that these organism will dry out and be unable to take up
the stains. Thanks in advance. Cynthia
