RE: LIS integration with pathology test tracking

From:"Weems, Joyce"

Tim, we have a new Triple G system, which I am still trying to perfect. It
has a good AP unit.

To try to answer your questions:

Do your pathologists request tests through the LIS?
Yes, they order all recuts, restains, specials, immunos, reference testing,
etc. We have such a good tracking system that we use this as documented
physician order. Notes can be written at specimen, block and specimen level,
stains ordered on unstained levels, etc. It's a good way to document the
time they ordered it, etc. They can't say they did it before cut off time
when they didn't!

Do you enter tests performed and results obtained on each slide?
Tests are ordered on block and slide but results are not entered except
generally in the
report.

Can you print out reports by case, test-type (special stain, antibody, etc)
or other parameters?
Yes, I will be able to, but I don't have the Crystal report customized yet.

Can you print out a report per case showing all test requests, all tests
performed and all results?
Yes, but another Crystal report to customize.

Can you use the LIS to produce test-use reports (ie, how many tests of each
type done per time period)?
Same as above - Crystal report to customize.

This system will become better and better as upgrades are made. It is a
Windows based system and is quite user friendly. Our pathologists have been
great - although we have had our ups and downs! Its not a month old yet, so
I have a lot to look forward to!

Histonetters,

I would like to know at what level your LIS integrates with your pathology
tests.
Do your pathologists request tests through the LIS?
Do you enter tests performed and results obtained on each slide?
Can you print out reports by case, test-type (special stain, antibody, etc)
or other parameters?
Can you print out a report per case showing all test requests, all tests
performed and all results?
Can you use the LIS to produce test-use reports (ie, how many tests of each
type done per time period)?

Thanks for your time!
