Re: Levels on biopsies

From:Rena Fail

What type of biopsy?
Our renal pathologist wants to see 3 stained levels, so 13 slides are cut 2 serial sections on each slide. slides 1,4, and 7 are stained H&E, 2, 5, and 8 with PAS, 3,6, and 9 with MASS, 10 with Jones. the other 3 sections are used for other requests if necessary, CR, IHC etc. These cores are usually 18gauge needle core bxs. The levels needed are related to tissue type. Levels are cut on lungs, GI's, Livers , breast, etc  with extra sections picked up for possible special stains/IHC.
