To all,
Likewise we have our tissue processors connected to remote alarms( in
chemistry
which is staffed 24 hours/day) with instructions to call the Anatomic Path
supervisor (which is me or my designate). It is then my task to resolve the
problem with the processor/s or transfer the tissues to back-up instruments.
I do this without charging the hospital for "standby" reimbursement but
probably should. If I get called in I then charge for 8 hours of standby +
whatever time I am there (I don't know why I added that commentary; it must
have been building up). Our -70 freezer has a remote alarm which is audible
from anywhere in the lab and the plant engineers are then responsible once
the lab has notified them. There is a second -70 freezer in surgery
to fall back on as needed (our's provides the same measure of back-up for
surgery).
