Vector now makes a very sensitive chromogen, NovaRed as a permanent
replacement for AEC, could work for contrast with melanin, and is as
sensitive as DAB, if you wanted to stay with the HRP system.  It does not
require aqueous based mounting media.  Could be worth a try
