I have the Olympus Cut 4060 rotary microtome, and I love mine.  Our office 
has two of them in fact. (we have a total of 4 microtomes) I have had a few 
minor problems with mine, but not the one you have described.  As for our 
other Cut 4060, we have had no problems.  Anytime I have had a problem, I 
would call my distributor, and they would guide me over the phone to fix the 
problem.  I know my microtome inside and out (literally).  I hope that they 
will fix this problem for you, because this is a wonderful instrument, and I 
would hate for you to think of it as anything less.  Good luck.
