Sorry for the delayed reply. There was an article in The Journal of
Histotechnology a few years ago evaluating the various xylene substitutes on
the market. Xylene Substitute (now called Histosolve) came out a favorably.
We use this on our tissue processors and are pleased with the results. It
performs much better than the limonene substitutes. Limonene substitutes
have also been associated with respiratory problems. Clear-Rite 3 from
Richard Allen is also very good. I would say that they are comparable.
