One of my former students, James Gentile, D.M.D., produced very nicely fixed
rat eyes, with the retina in place and the lens cutting instead of
shattering, by injecting Bouin's fluid into the eye with a hypodermic needle
and then immersing the eye in Bouin's fluid for a week.  I think the needle
was 27 guage.
