UnfortunateIy, there is NO one right answer.  I have seen cases stain well
with cytokeratin 34BetaE12 following HIER.  I've seen others (outside
hospitals) do better with pepsin digestion.  And, recently, we obtained
outstanding immunoreactivity on over-fixed prostate tissue from our
institution using both digestion and HIER (in that order).  Therefore, if
you are not getting the immunoreactivity that you expect, you are going to
have to try different pretreatments.
