if you can figure out a way to hold the sample you could cut it on the
vibrotome without embedding it. i use a disc or wire saw to make such
sections of bone, i glue the tissue sample to a wood block with super
glue and then put it in the holder on the saw, with the wire saw you can
easily get 100 micron sections. there is a saw apparatus called "Saw
Bones" which is a holder for the sample and it comes with two blades
side by side in a hax saw type holder so you get a slab with one cut,
but the thickness is about one milimeter (1000 microns), I use this to
cut slabs from whole femoroal heads, it works great.
