RE: [Histonet] HIPPA and slides[Scanned]

From:Kemlo Rogerson

We always, in the UK, I think put both on; it's part of our IQC. I suppose
the choice is to be sued for mixing up the slides or be sued for releasing
Patient's names; which is cheaper?

We are presently putting both on the label. It does seem against Hippa, but
the slides shouldn't end up in too public a place. AND- there's allot of
John Smiths out there, no way of telling which John Smith you've got.
Having both name and surgical number on the label has diverted enough errors
to know that this is definitely worth while.

Does anyone know if patient names can go on slides in addition to accession

numbers? Doing so seems like it would go against HIPPA law.
