I think the most important thing with the non-IHC syains is good 
fixation of the mucin. We found that going from fomalin to Zn 
formalin years ago made a big difference. Otherwise the mucin gets 
stringy. and where strings cross can look like bacteria.

With a good specimen plus a good Giemsa, I can do most antrum bxs 
with high dry. An occasional case requires oil, esp if there are a 
lot of other bacteria present coming from the oropharynx or if the 
preparation is suboptimal. I like the Alcian yellow better, but it is 
considerably more expensive for us to do.
