Re: looking for 6" curved forceps w/o teeth
I do recommend the ergonomic forceps from Surgipath and they make them
without teeth. I have some of these at the embedding and coverslipping
stations and they are great.
If you aren't interested in ergonomic forceps and want to save some money
try looking at some of the larger flea markets and home shows. This is
crazy but you can find great histo "tools" in some of these places. I know
of a flea market in the San Diego area that has had forceps and I have
bought several forceps and dental tools at home shows in Tucson. I think I
paid less than $5 for straight or curved, 6" length (they have longer and
shorter lengths), steel - made in Pakistan forceps and the same for various
dental tools that I use here in the lab. They might have been one of those
3 for $10 kind of deals. My home show forceps have held up to fixatives,
decals, alcohols and solvents. I like them because they have fine tips
probably preferred by hobbyists who are likely the market for the tools.
A long time ago I bought the same kind of forceps, called jeweler's
forceps, from Brookstone. They cost back then about $19/pair however after
quizzing sales folks in several Brookstone stores I've come to the
conclusion that they don't sell these anymore.
