We have the Surgipath cassette labeler and the Shandon Microwriter
slide label system.  I agree the cassette labeler is very dependable
and works great.  The biggest time saver I have is the slide labeler.
Our IS guys were able to interface it with out lab system and I save
hundreds, if not thousands of hours per year.  We are looking into
the Shandon Cassette labeler now because it allows the user to walk
away when in use and will run off the same software the slide labeler
uses.
