RE: Biohazard Waste Disposal

From:Walzer Susan

We neutalize formalin then dump it down the drain with CAW (copious amounts
of water) Alcohol is flushed with CAW and xylene is put in a holding barrel
and picked up by a contracted waste disposal co.

Subject: Biohazard Waste Disposal

Is there a histology lab in histoland that has a policy for handling and
disposal of used Xylene, Clear Rite, Alcohol, Flex and formalin from the
stainer and the tissue processor?
We are currently using a waste service to empty our 30 gal drums
[stored in a flam cabinet] once per month. I thought of recycling, but
we don't have the space, personel or the money to purchase the
equipment.
Please Help!
