No. I used a Shandon Finesse for a year. The foot switch deactivates
automatically after a short time of sitting idle and must be turned back on
with a push of a button. If I recall correctly, the maximum time it could be
set for was three minutes. The pedal is also in a box, requiring a conscious
effort to put one's foot in and press the pedal. As with a manual microtome,
I think accidental injuries are due to putting one's fingers in the wrong
place at the wrong time.
I did manage to break the end of my brush off, though.... :-)
