Dear Susan,
I have seen this problem, when paraffin baths are not changed frequently
enough and xylene gets carried over to even the last paraffin bath in
the processor. There is no chance that xylene has contaminated the
paraffin you are using to embed in? You said this problem started a
month ago. What has changed in procedures, materials, employees,
equipment? Something must be different from a month ago. It is possible
that both your processors have malfunctioning valves (not likely)
allowing some xylene to pass into paraffins.
Maybe someone out there has more ideas? Katri.
