Our physicians send the left and right prostate biopsies in separate
containers. Each bx is wrapped and labeled with, apex, mid or base within
each container. During grossing, each bx is marked with ink according to our
protocol (apex=green, mid=red, etc. )so we only have 2 blocks per case.We
cut 6 levels on each block and all are put on capillary gap slides (we use a
Biotek for our immunos) and stained with H&E. If necessary, they are
destained and can be stined with keratin903. This works well for use. The
slides are more expensive, but better than using regular slides and risking
losing tissue during he immuno procedure.
