  I currently work at a hospital that pays mlt's more.  I am not sure why.  I 
worked in upstate N.Y  for three years  and I was paid more than a MLT.  The 
reasoning was that histotech's were more specialized.  One of the differences 
is that my college degree stated MLT with a specialization in histology.  I 
hope this helps
