RE: Trichome Stain for registery

From:"Charles.Embrey"

But isn't it a practical examination. I stress the word examination. The
purpose of an Examination is not to "gain information and consider advice
from fellow professionals in our field". It's purpose is to demonstrate
that you possess the basic skill necessary to perform the job in the field.
Sorry, the honor system that applied when I took my registry demanded that
the final product be my work alone and not a collaborative effort of the
histonet. Any registered histotech I hire should know the basics of the
job.

I thought the purpose of Histonet is to gain information and consider advice
from fellow professionals in our field, not to be the judge of somebody's
ability to become certified. After all, the field is changing. Special
stains have taken the back burner to IHC in many instances. We need to
encourage those who are interested in cerification. There aren't many
Histotechs left as you know...

I don't mean to sound cold here but isn't figuring out how to fine tune a
special stain part of the reason the applicant is being tested for the
registry? If they have trouble doing a simple trichrome maybe they should
postpone HT certification.

Hi,
We have someone taking the registry and they are having trouble
getting it the way it should be. It seems it is really staining
a dark blue. Any suggestions? He is trying different times, but
it is still not doing what it should. Any help would be most
appreciated..

Thanks,

Sharon
