RE: Prion inactivation

From:"Monson, Frederick C."

Morning Augustin,
I used the following string [] to search google
and came up with the following:

http://www-micro.msb.le.ac.uk/335/Prions.html

And at the CDC, this PDF:

http://www.cdc.gov/od/ohs/pdffiles/bmbl4_spanish.pdf

Hope this helps,

Fred Monson

Subject: Prion inactivation

Dear netters: I'm in need of some up to date literature on the following=

Are prions definitely killed i.e. is their pathogenic potential destroyed by
alcohols, clearing agents and hot paraffin during routine histologic
processing? Any MD or DVM knows about TSE (=BSE, FSE,
CWD, CJD, etc.)-causing agents' resistance to formalin fixation. But who can
document the current knowledge on this topics? It is in favor of our own
biosecurity!!

Thank you very muc
