lab space

From:Jill Songer

Gayle,

I would weep and then retire!!

Our lab measures approximately 30 by 50 feet, consisting of 2 rooms that
connect. In the smaller room is the embedding center, cryostat, 2 VIP's, 2
hoods vented to the outside for coverslipping. The H and E stainer, immuno
stainer, 3 microtomy stations, data entry station, filing stuff and various
other lab equipment is in the bigger space. Oh yeah, and windows that were
supposed to be at bench level but ended up being "skylights". The grossing
is done in the necropsy lab. I was lucky to have had a supervisor and head
pathologist that could foresee the need for space when this facility was
built and were able to design the lab with enough space.

There is no way you are going to get all that equipment in that space and
still have room to work! I agree with Diane, histology is still perceived
as the step child. Our technology might have come a long way, but our
status hasn't.

Just my 2 cents !
