I have a question for the mucin experts.

We are planning a study in which a segment of sheep trachea will be
isolated between endotracheal tube cuffs, and the space will be filled
with fluid. We are interested in measuring the mucus secretion
stimulated by capsaicin and other agents. Is there a good way to
quantitate the amount of mucus in solution/suspension? Maybe
measuring the degree of metachromasia would work? Any suggestions
or references will be greatly appreciated.
