Patrick,
I have used Pinacyanol chloride as an excellent stain of metaphase spreads
for karyotyping.
Bensley prepared a neutral dye by combining aqueous solutions of Pinacyanol
and erythrosin.
I have never used this neutral dye , but it was touted as a Mast cell stain.
Reference; Bensley, S.E. Pinacyanol erythrosinate as a stain for mast cells.
Stain Technol. 41: 269-273 (1952).
