We have tried using the recycled xylene in our staining set-up and after many
attempts, just gave up. We had trouble mostly with coverslipping, which we do
by hand. It seemed like the slides dried too fast before we could put on the
coverslip. After checking with the recycler, we were told that it was probably
too pure. Anyway, no one here would buy the stuff so the med center just quit
recycling it. Now we use xylene which has to be picked up and hauled away
somewhere.
