I routinely use an avidin biotin block on all mouse frozen sections.

It may not be needed in all cases, but was a nice way to insure and standardize
the procedure even though some tissues contain more endog biotin than others.

If you do antigen retrieval on NBF fixed, paraffin sections, keep in mind
the endogenous biotin is restored by the retrieval, and you will have to do
this block.

An avidin biotin kits is available from may sources, Dako, Vector, etc or
make up your own.

I still use normal serum blocking, often a cocktail of serums, with excellent
results plus a variety of "tweaks"' to get rid of background it it occurs.
