have you tried the Fite's method for AFB? It uses Xylene:Peanut Oil 50:50
(two changes at 10 minutes each) to deparaffinize, blot well, then Ziehl
Neelson Carbol Fuschin for 30 minutes. Decolorize in Acid Alcohol, rinse
well, counterstain in Methylene Blue, let dry completely , dip in xylene and
coverslip.
this may be just what you are looking for....check the AFIP manual.
