Hello,
We had problems using merchrochrome  also.  Our problem was that the
merchrochrome fluoresces.  We use Phenol-Auromine AFB stain and it
interfered with the interpritation.  Now we put dilute eosin in the last
ROH on our processor.  The needle bxs are easy to see as well as other
small bxs.
