Seems the same as the other folks....placentas not sent to pathology are
kept in L&D fridge for one week then disposed of (not sure just how as they
don't require us to dispose of them directly).  Those for pathology are sent
down, fixed (unless cytogenetic testing is requested), grossed, and stored
for 16 days then disposed with the other tissue.

We are a catholic organization and it appears we will shortly be retaining
any products of conception (placentas included) for quarterly delivery to a
funeral home for cremation and service.  This will apparently also effect
L&D.  The freezer option at that point (since it's just for storage) will be
our option.
