Hi Everyone,

In case you are interested, I have been planning our Lab Week celebrations
for a few years. This year we are doing the following:
1. I took pictures of lab employee's eyes who were willing. Out of 120
employees, I accumulated pictures of 107 sets of employees eyes. They are
all numbered and placed on a very exciting board. The idea is to match the
correct pair of eyes to the co-worker. There are lots of people right now
gathered around the board and laughing. Everyone seems so interested in just
looking. I also put up a mystery set of eyes to guess, someone who is not a
lab employee. Staff also vote for their favorite set of eyes. Prizes are
given for all these contests.
2. We are having lunch provided everyday by generous vendors. Pizza, El
Pollo Loco, Olive Garden, etc. Also we are having a chili cookoff and 1st
prize is a $100 gift certificate. Last year there was enough chili to feed
the entire lab for lunch. Staff loved this event. We give everyone who
participates a prize and also a special prize for 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
3. We have a raffle after one of the lunches and we usually have 40 or more
prizes to raffle off. Everyone's name is put in the raffle. Our vendors have
been very generous!
4. We obtained a "Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition" for the
laboratory from our representative, Mary Bono.
It is very impressive looking and we made a beautiful display for it in the
cafeteria.
5. We hid 80 lab week magnets around the lab and satellite labs and whoever
finds them gets to keep the magnet and also get a prize! This usually takes
all week.
6. We gave each lab employee a small gift. This year it is post-it notes.
They have the hospital logo on them and at the bottom they say: ...from a
valued member of the EMC Laboratory Services team!

As you can see, we treat this as more of a celebration, although we do put
lab week posters throughout the hospital.

Sure is a fun week around here. It is a good way to get people from
different lab areas together. The staff gets very excited and are very
appreciative.
