There was an article in the JOH, June 1996, by Margeson and Chapman on 
the use of zinc formalin as a sensitizer in silver stains for 
spirochetes.  The authors used  10% zinc formalin to sensitize the 
tissue before the silver step.  I can fax the article to whomever wanted
