Millicent,
			at that size I would assume these mice are about 19 -19.5 dpc   
( or you have in fact got rats!). At this age we would usually bisect the fetus 
sagittally ( by hand using a microtome blade) after a few hours fixation, 
then further fix for 24 hours.We also decal for 48hours in EDTA prior to 
processing with a standard overnight process. There is no evidence of "over-
processing".
