"friendly fire"

"friendly fire"

Dear Greg,
I was quite as saddened by the loss of Canadian lives in a "friendly fire" incident as I was by the loss of U.S. lives in an earlier "friendly fire" incident.  Lamentably, "friendly fire" incidents are part and parcel of the awfulness of war.

In several trips to western Canada, I have enjoyed the courtesy and helpfulness of Canadians.  My ascent of Mt. Robson would have impossible without the freely offered advice of two Canadian guides (Hans Schwartz and Sepp Renner).

While I think Canada might learn something about economics from the U.S., I think that the U.S. could learn something about park management and relations with native peoples from Canada.

        Sincerely yours,
                        Allen
