I worked with a patholgist long ago who used to fix specimens (usually
testicles) in 37% formalin for a couple of hours to harden it so he could
trim it easier. We never had any problems with it that I know of.

What would happen if you fixed tissue in 37% formalin instead of 10%
NBF?  We had a pathologist ask one of our lab assistants for some 37%
formalin and I'm afraid to ask her why she wanted it!!!  Fortunately the
lab assistant didn't give it to her!
