I would tell this turkey that he/she is now responsible for all supply ordering, writing all manuals, scheduling, solving all the day-to-day problems and all the other million and one things a supervisor does. I'm a department of 1, and as chief cook and bottle washer I  know what has to happen for the depatment to function.
