RE: Gram stain controls

From:Walzer Susan

We give our micro dept. fresh sections of umbilical cord and they incubate
them with each positive and negative bacteria for a couple of days. We then
fix them in formalin and process and embed one piece of each in a block. Any
fresh tissue would work I think, but it shows up well on the cord tissue.

Subject: Gram stain controls

Does anyone have experience with making their own gram positive and negative
controls from cultures? If so, would you share your experiences and
procedures? I thought it would be nice to have gram positive cocci and gram
negative rods. Thanks for any and all help.
