LFB on frozen brain tissue

I don't know if you've had any other responses yet; I've been out of the lab for a few days, and just saw your message. I routinely stain fresh frozen mouse brains with Luxol Fast Blue and Cresyl Violet counterstain. I do fix them in formalin for about 5 minutes first. We also de-fat them in chloroform for 5 minutes, but I don't know that it's necessary-we just do it because we prep large quantities of slides at the same time, and some are used for in-situ hybridization. Our stain comes out beautifully with this method.
