Kathy,
I, too, used to worry about the colour of methyl green until it dawned that,
like so many other dyes, methyl (yes, ethyl) green is a pH indicator and is
supposed to be blue at pH 4 ish.
Indeed, if what you are trying is the methyl green/pyronin method you must
concentrate on accurate pH and let the colours look after themselves!
