Yes, as von kossa will not work on decalcified bone. This works by staining
the calcified bone black with the VK silver then staining the osteoid which
is not calcified with the eosin. If you don't have the black calcified bone
stain the bone and osteoid will both stain with the eosin and you would not
be able to differentiate between bone and osteoid.
