RE: cornflaking artifact

From:Bonnie McMahill <bjmcm@mail.com>

We have also had this "cornflake" artifact with Sakura coverslipping film for over six months. I contacted the customer service department and they said that it is due to inadequate dehydration and that they were recommending 2 changes in 95% alcohol, 3 100% changes (making sure that these are changed every few runs so that eosin does not carry to the last alcohol and into the xylene), each a minimum of 3 minutes - then 3 changes of xylene. This increased our staining time so much that we were missing courier runs, plus it didn't totally solve the problem. We then tried a different manufacturers film, went back to our old program (1-95%, 3-100%'s, 3-xylenes = each at 1 minute) and we no longer have the artifact!
