I presume that the dye discussed is Cresyl Violet acetate. The perchlorate
version has a chemical group removed to make it suitable as a laser dye. Our CV
acetate has a 69% dye contents and the certificate by the Biological Staining
Commission says "Satisfactory for metachromatic, nuclear and nissl staining. "

It is not usual practice to quote pricing on a listserver, but I am astonished.
Lorraine quoted fantastic prices for an apparently very similar and probably
identical product as ours. We list that item for A$83 per 10g - which is about
US$48 and that is somewhat removed from US$222. Often price is related to
quality, but "it ain't necessarily so . . " What is more, if the Commission
finds the material satisfactory for certain procedures, it would appear
wasteful to for instance, substitute the rather more expensive perchlorate
laser dye.
Cheers
Jim Darley
