We need a technician for
aprx 4-6 hours (or from 8am to 2pm) on Fridays.

MOHS MICROGRAPHIC SURGERY LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

BASIC FUNCTION
Prepare horizontal frozen sections of tissue specimens according to the
Mohs Micrographic Surgery Procedure.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Working directly with and under the general supervision of the Mohs
surgeon, embed, section, and stain frozen sections of the Mohs surgical
specimens maintaining the proper anatomical structures and identity of
the
tissues in regard to the Mohs map, stage, specimen number, and identity
of
the patient; maintain surgery records, provide assistance to Mohs
surgeon
as requested.

TYPICAL WORK
Monitor and perform quality control of specimens; perform initial
examination of prepared specimens; maintain integrity of specimens
throughout procedure.

Identify problems, take corrective action, notify supervisor of action
taken, and follow up on solutions.

Perform Mohs microscopic surgery frozen section method pertaining to
orienting, embedding, sectioning, staining, and labeling.

Consult with Mohs surgeon about tissue size and various anatomical
structures within the tissue (i.e., epidermis, fat, scar tissue,
cartilage, etc.); determine appropriate techniques or methods for
sectioning different types of specimens.

Analyze and determine cause(s) of instrument malfunction, take
corrective
action and monitor follow up; maintain quality control of
instruments; maintain temperature control charts.

Perform related duties as required.

Work within the laboratory guidelines of C.L.I.A., S.A.P., and the
University of Washington.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate, Masters, Bachelor or Associates degree in related science

One year Clinical experience in sectioning and staining frozen section
tissue.
