I conducted a ceremonial burial of our old Histonet Server on Friday, the
little PPC 6100/60 (8 year old) just could not keep up with the demands
of the increase in the number of subscribers to Histonet. This machine
has run without interruption (other than network problems locally) since
the Histonet list was started and the server was just not able to keep
up with the traffic.
Welcome the new histonet server, a 4 year old PPC 5400/180. This
computer is a veteran of another venue, the student labs here at UT
Southwestern. It has been retired from that service but will now serve
us for Histonet.
In observing this new friend's performance over the weekend, it is three
times faster than the old system. We still have the distinction of being
the largest outbound source of email on our campus, accounting for 30% of
all outbound traffic. We now regularly send outbound 70,000 to 100,000
messages a day.
Please let me know if you encounter any errors or problems with this new
system by sending a quick note to hagler.herb@pathology.swmed.edu as I am
subscribed to the digest mode of the server.
Keep those emails coming.....
Herb Hagler
