some things to look for when buying an all around use pH meter IF you are
going to primarily check pH of buffers

Single barrel electrode that is adequate for pH adjustment of TRIS buffers
along with your other buffers so you can get down into a narrow necked
container. There are differences on electrodes for reading TRIS buffers,
but they do read PBS, etc.

One that has a plastic barrel takes a lot of abuse, do not break as easily
and tip of electrode is hidden up in a tiny sleeve, and cheaper to replace
when necessary.

We were taught to store electrode in pH 4 buffer, to keep the electrode
from clogging up, but directions may say differently.

Good luck,
