We use a hematology quick stain called "DiffQuik" from Dade routinely and for the not so obvious cases we use Alcian Yellow produced by Poly Scientific, 70 Cleveland Ave.,
Bay Shore, New Jersey, 11706 , phone (516)586 0400.
Re: formalin substitute. try "Prefer", a glyoxal/ethanol/buffer combination from Anatech Ltd. 1-800-262-8324.
